The one thing I do take issue with Technic is that you can only pick 1.8.x releases, so I can't use it to make a modpack of my 1.9 snapshot mods. I can then easily toss a link to a chat room and everyone's up and running in no time. Technic's launcher is more lightweight, doesn't have to open the vanilla launcher on top of the regular launcher, and their service provides direct control over publishing and updating a private pack (while hosting it myself) without any hurdles. Needing a logo, needing approval, dealing with licenses and permissions, possibility of rejection if everything's not perfect for public packs I don't have a problem with it, but it's just not worth it for a private pack. It's probably fine for plenty of people, but when I read stuff like this, it just turns me away from it. They're clearly a player in the community with the kinds of popularity their platform and launcher gets, so why do people seem to act like it doesn't exist? There's also the Technic Solder API, which many modpack developers myself included find to be a godsend. Technic's official packs are wildly popular and many people enjoy them (like the recently released HQM back they did called Blightfall), and there's quite a few decent 3rd party packs as well that have blown up on their platform (which I haven't seen matched by anyone). Yes, I understand that this is /r/feedthebeast but it's more than that now, this place has become a hub of communication for the modding community at large, and it seems kind of odd that it's almost never mentioned or discussed. I've just noticed that when talking about modpack launchers (and platforms) many seem to casually disregard the Technic Launcher.
